Midwestern Dirt was formed in 2017 as a studio project by singer-songwriter Patrick Kapp while he resided in Brooklyn. The band’s first three albums were recorded primarily with help from Kapp's family and friends at his brother-in-law's studio in Atlanta. After getting some musician friends together, the band began to play shows around the NYC area until Kapp moved back to his hometown of Chicago in June of 2019.

With the move back home, Kapp was forced to start over and find new bandmates. One of these being longtime bassist Colin Mercer. After a few shows around Chicago in 2019 and early 2020, the pandemic hit and the band went dormant along with the rest of the planet. During this period, Kapp recorded an EP of old songs in his home studio called Songs to Be Forgotten.

After the pandemic, the band became what it is today: a fully realized group of dedicated friends and musicians crafting songs together and playing energetic live shows. The current iteration of the band features John Golden (drums), Alejandro Ortiz (guitar), Colin Mercer (bass), and Owen Hemming (keys) alongside the aforementioned frontman Patrick Kapp (guitar, vocals). After working out the kinks playing their new songs live, the band worked with local engineer Keifer Douglas at JamDek studios in Chicago over a brief two days to complete recording album. A fact they are quite proud of. Containing a penchant for reverberated guitars, propelling drums, and heartfelt lyrics, Midwestern Dirt aims to make every track a sonic journey.

Midwestern Dirt’s newest full-length, Twilight at a Burning Hill, is out everywhere August 18th. See them on the road this summer with an album release show at Beat Kitchen in Chicago on release day or in Milwaukee on August 19th. More tour dates forthcoming!
