The Flip Phones are an indie acoustic-driven rock band from Arlington, VA. They blend modern musical stylings with classical inspiration to create quirky songs with catchy melodies and well-crafted lyrics. Music by The Flip Phones challenges listeners to ponder little moments and big questions.

The Flip Phones' debut album, Better in the Dark, was a 2022 WAMMIE award finalist for best rock album. It draws on the melodica stylings of Gorillaz and the songwriting of Neko Case, with inspiration from lyrical luminaries The Decemberists.

“Polaris” is a new single by The Flip Phones that is out everywhere. It’s a rocking track dedicated to the star that has provided guidance and inspiration to navigators and dreamers alike over the millennia as they look to the night sky. Drawing on influences such as R.E.M, Gorillaz, and Supergrass, "Polaris" will inspire you to find the motivation to keep searching for that special something in life. “Polaris” is the second single from the band's upcoming EP — Spinning Adrift — that will be released on April 4, 2025.

Spinning Adrift is about the search for meaning and finding a sense of place in an increasingly complex world. “It’s a Sign,” inspired by the Happy Foot/Sad Foot sign in Los Angeles that gained popularity as a means to predict how one’s day would go, is an upbeat song that explores whether our best-laid plans could be upended based on luck or superstition. "Floating Aimlessly" is about the search for purpose during a global pandemic and finding hope in the mundane and inspiration when you least expect it. “Tumbleweed” takes the EP to a darker place. Relating the story of Tumblegeddon, where a storm of giant 30-foot high tumbleweeds buried cars and trucks along a 20-mile stretch of highway for hours, the tumbleweed rolling with the wind symbolizes the futility of control. “Polaris” reinvigorates the search, and the EP closes with “Where the Space Falls Away,” which tells the story of a strange and malevolent force and its effect in the place where the worldly and otherworldly overlap.

The Flip Phones are led by Lindsey Wray and Ryan Kobb. Ryan (guitars, vocals) is a self-taught musician who grew up listening to The Beatles, The Kinks, and Blur. He draws on these influences and more when devising unconventional chord progressions and arrangements, challenging The Flip Phones to innovate with sound and form.

Ryan’s musical background complements Lindsey’s years of classical piano lessons and stints in symphonic and marching bands. Lindsey (keyboards, melodica, vocals) builds on the intriguing guitar parts, crafting melodies and hooks into fledgling earworms. She never forgot her strong roots in music theory, sometimes throwing in triplets and other musical flourishes. She is passionate about storytelling, and she always brings a keen eye to the band’s lyrics.

Supporting the band as they evolve their live and recorded sound is a small group of talented professional musicians. Phoenix Henkle (bass) started performing live with the band in 2023 and played on the recording of “Polaris” and “Where the Space Falls Away”. Dylan Storie and JR Franks provide live drums, while newest addition, Wilfredo Morales, brings additional creativity through his lead guitar.
